A Silent Home

Ada sighed as she looked around the living room. The house was eerily quiet—not the peaceful kind of quiet, but the unsettling kind that made her feel like something was wrong.

It was nearly 7 PM, yet there was no conversation, no laughter, no interaction. Instead, each of her family members was absorbed in their own world of screens.

Daniel, her 10-year-old son, sat curled up on the couch, eyes locked on his tablet, fingers moving rapidly as he played a mobile game. His older sister, Deborah, slouched at the dining table, scrolling endlessly on her phone. Even her husband, Tunde, was glued to his laptop, watching the evening news.

Ada frowned.

This wasn’t how she had imagined family life.

She longed for the days when the children would rush to the table, eager to share stories about their day. But now, conversations were limited to a few distracted nods and murmurs.

She had tried before—reminding, begging, even threatening to take the devices away—but the problem never seemed to go away.

Maybe she was overreacting. After all, at least they were home and safe… right?

Yet something in her heart whispered otherwise.
